The Division of Colorectal Surgery is committed to improving the quality of life for patients suffering from conditions affecting the colon, rectum and anus. A full range of state-of-the-art investigations and treatment modalities are offered on site. Being part of the Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital facilitates frequent collaboration with physicians from other specialties and helps us provide comprehensive services to patients and other referring physicians. Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital colorectal surgeons provide surgical evaluations and treatment for patients with colorectal conditions caused by various etiologies including congenital, acquired, inflammatory or neoplastic lesions. We also diagnose and manage abdominal and perineal complaints affecting lower intestinal tract. The surgeons provide outpatient clinical assessment and management for all anorectal complaints, with emphases on pathological and functional conditions. Most anorectal conditions – including hemorrhoids, fissures, fistulae, anal warts and pilonidal diseases - can be treated both medically and surgically on an inpatient or outpatient basis. Pelvic physiology center is in the process of being set up to provide quality services. In addition to colonoscopic examinations and polypectomy procedures, more advanced and specialized procedures, such as endoscopic mucosal resection and endoscopic submucosal dissection are also offered for selected patients. Over recent years, the surgeons have also actively developed and expanded our capacities to provide services for minimally-invasive colorectal surgical operations, such as laparoscopic assessment (including advanced 3-dimensional image system) and da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery. Thus far, the clinical outcome and reviews have been very positive. With the advancement of diagnostic and surgical techniques in the treatment of colorectal cancer, we have also actively invested in the management of advance-staged malignancies.

We are dedicated to offer quality services in this field, conduct clinical research and educate younger generation of healthcare providers. In addition to inter-departmental collaborations within the hospital, we are also committed to strengthening our cooperation with other hospitals and healthcare facilities, particularly in clinically-related issues. Our ultimate goal is to continually provide the best and most up-to-date evidence-based services.
