Introduction
The Division of Plastic Surgery was established on October 31, 1979 when Kaohsiung Veterans Hospital was founded. Under the leadership of the first director, Dr. Yin Zhi-Hong, it has gradually grown to become a trustworthy medical institution in reconstructing plastic and cosmetic surgery in Southern Taiwan. In response to medical needs, we increased the number of hospital beds and established a burn intensive care center in May 1982. Under the continuous efforts of all medical staff to improve the medical standards, it was appraised as a medical center in August 1982.
Since September 1982, under the leadership of Dr. Chen Jin-Shi, the second director, there were considerable progress in microsurgery, breast reconstruction, head and neck reconstruction, cosmetic plastic surgery, hand surgery, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
In recent years, in addition to excellence in various fields, in 1993, the medical cosmetic center was operated, and the burn intensive care center, hyperbaric oxygen treatment center and difficult wound treatment center were expanded. From November 16, 1993, Dr. Chen Lee-Wei served as the head of the department. Thanks to Dr. Chen's active efforts in clinical and basic research, he has led plastic surgery to a new era of clinical, research and teaching.
The current director was replaced by Dr. Yang Kuo-Chung on February 26, 2013. He served the patients with world-class medical standards to improve the medical standards of plastic surgery in Southern Taiwan.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Center
The Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital started to use the first monoplace hyperbaric chamber in December 1984. In order to serve the more and more patients with chronic and difficult wounds, our hospital introduced a multiplace hyperbaric chamber with 8 seats in 1993. In the same time, the “Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Center" was established in the basement first floor of the medical building. Meanwhile, a professional medical team, which was composed of many physicians and technicians with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy certification was built.
People can relax, sit, or lie comfortably in the bright hyperbaric oxygen chambers and take deep breaths with pure oxygen through the mask. Moreover, they can listen to music or read magazines during treatment. The most safe and high-qualified treatment would be provided in our Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Center.
