The Department of Anesthesia at Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital is comprised of approximately 65 (sixty five) staff anesthetists, 23 anesthesiologists who are involved in clinical care, education, research and administration in various areas throughout the hospital. The Department of Anesthesia provides perioperative care to the many patients that come through the operating rooms each year. Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital performs approximately 18,000 surgical procedures per year, which include cardiac, neurosurgical, vascular, orthopedic, plastics, ophthalmologic, gynecologic, urologic, and general and minimally invasive surgery. We also provide care to patients undergoing procedures in locations outside the main operating room such as Labour and Delivery and the general, Electroconvulsive therapy, painless gastroenteroscopy and neuro-angiography suites.
In addition, many patients are seen in the Anesthesia Consult Clinic, which runs every weekday and Sunday from 0800 to 1800 hours (Sunday from 1800 to 1900). Members of the Department are actively involved in research, education, and clinical care. Some join the board committee including the surgery team, emergency team, intensive team, and blood bank. In the future, we want to extend our service to other southern Taiwan hospitals, including the Pingtung branch.
