    Department of Radiology Overview

    Introduction

    The Department of Radiology provides a comprehensive range of medical imaging services beyond traditional X-ray diagnostics. We specialize in ultrasound and MRI, employing high-frequency sound waves and magnetic fields for high-resolution imaging. Given the breadth of our diagnostic expertise, we are better described as Medical Imaging Diagnosis Physicians.

    Medical Imaging & Diagnostic Services

    With state-of-the-art equipment, we can accurately detect organ abnormalities without surgery, helping clinicians develop optimal treatment plans. Additionally, we perform fluoroscopy- and ultrasound-guided procedures for precise lesion localization and therapeutic interventions.

    Radiation Safety

    We use only X-rays, which have significantly lower energy than alpha (α) or gamma (γ) rays. Our lead-shielded rooms and protective gear ensure minimal radiation exposure, maintaining a safe environment for both patients and staff. The radiation dose from a chest X-ray is comparable to that of a Taipei-New York flight. For pregnant women, we recommend ultrasound or MRI as safer alternatives.

    Core Services

    We specialize in ultrasound (US), computed tomography (CT), angiography, and minimally invasive procedures, offering highly effective, low-risk diagnostic and therapeutic solutions. Our expertise in liver tumor treatments includes:

    • Drug-eluting microspheres – delivering targeted chemotherapy to tumors while minimizing systemic side effects.

    • Yttrium-90 (Y-90) radioembolization – an internal radiation therapy selectively targeting liver tumors.

    • Tumor ablation & cryoablation – using heat or freezing techniques to destroy cancerous tissues.

    • Intra-arterial chemotherapy (HAIC) – directly delivering chemotherapy to the liver via its arterial supply for enhanced effectiveness.

    Specialized Techniques

    • Dialysis access management – ensuring optimal vascular access for long-term dialysis patients.

    • Gastrointestinal vascular interventions – treating conditions such as gastrointestinal bleeding with minimally invasive embolization techniques.

    • Peripheral arterial interventions – restoring blood flow in patients with arterial blockages, preventing complications such as limb ischemia.

    Advanced Treatment Methods

    Recognized as a leading institution for transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) and recipient of multiple National Quality Marks (SNQ), our department continuously advances interventional techniques, including:

    • Innovative left subclavian artery puncture

    • Percutaneous hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC)

    • Intrahepatic chemotherapy with partial embolization

    • Balloon-occluded retrograde transvenous obliteration (BRTO)

    Future Development

    Advancing Minimally Invasive Therapies

    We are developing a minimally invasive treatment center to enhance oncological, palliative, and peripheral vascular interventions, offering safer and more effective procedures.

    Liver Transplant Imaging & Cardiovascular Diagnostics

    Our expertise in pre-, intra-, and post-liver transplant imaging ensures comprehensive evaluations and complication management. Additionally, our MRI and CT imaging center for congenital structural heart disease enhances diagnostic accuracy through high-resolution imaging.

    Fatty Liver Diagnosis & Research

    We are developing a large-scale fatty liver diagnosis and management database, improving diagnostic accuracy and treatment strategies through advanced imaging and clinical research.

    Minimally Invasive Interventions

    Utilizing ultrasound, CT, and angiography, we perform precise interventions, particularly in liver tumor treatments, including:

    • Drug-eluting microspheres – delivering localized chemotherapy to liver tumors.

    • Yttrium-90 (Y-90) radioembolization – providing targeted internal radiation therapy.

    • Tumor ablation & cryoablation – destroying tumors through heat or freezing techniques.

    We employ advanced intravascular techniques to preserve limb function, prevent amputations, and reduce patient burden. These include:

    • Gastrointestinal vascular interventions – addressing conditions like gastrointestinal bleeding using embolization.

    • Peripheral arterial interventions – restoring blood flow to prevent limb ischemia and related complications.

    Through these advancements, we aim to establish ourselves as leaders in medical imaging and interventional radiology in Taiwan and across Asia.
