In an effort to strengthen the health care for people as well as the development and upgrading of medical science in southern Taiwan , the Authorities set to organize the “Preparatory Office of Kaohsiung Branch of Taipei Veterans General Hospital” in 1984, which was listed as one of the Fourteen Major Constructions Of The Nation, then started the civil engineering on current site in 1985. The “Kaohsiung Branch of Taipei Veterans General Hospital of Veterans Affairs Council of Executive Yuan” was then officially inaugurated in 1990. Dr Zhu-Shiou-Dong had been nominated as the Director of the ENT Division since its establishment. In 2003 the ENT Division was further promoted as Department of Otolaryngology. Dr. Zhu was retired at legal age in January 2013 and the lead simultaneously succeeded to Dr. Lin-Yao-Shiang who was the former Deputy Superintendent of Tri-Service General Hospital and is currently the Head of the Department. As the Hospital being renamed as “Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital” in 2013, the department was consequently renamed as “Department of Otorhinolaryngology –Head &Neck Surgery”.


The facilities are equipped with endoscopic examination room, Hearing test room, Vestibular Function test room…etc. Since 2012, the state-of-the-art da Vinci Surgical System has been installed for advanced services. Our organization now consists of 3 divisions such as Otology, Rhinology and Laryngology, each division has individual Director as lead. The whole Department has 10 attending doctors, and 8-10 residents. Monthly outpatient volume at 3,000 while inpatient 180. With a capacity of 36 sickbeds, the utility rate of the sickbed normally reaches over 90%.
